VIENNA, 29 July (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the United Nations (Vienna), Khampheng Douangthongla, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Douangthongla, who is also Ambassador to Austria, has served in various capacities, among them:
Director General, European and American Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2022-2025); Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy in the United States (2017-2021); Deputy Director-General, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2015-2017); Director of the United Nations Political and Security Division, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2012-2015); Second Secretary, Permanent Mission of Lao PDR to the United Nations in New York (2008-2012); Deputy Director, of the United Nations Political and Security Division, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2002-2008); and Third Secretary, Permanent Mission of Lao PDR to the United Nations in New York (1998-2002).
Mr. Douangthongla holds a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages from the National University, Lao PDR.
He speaks English, Russian and Vietnamese.
