VIENNA, 26 May 2025 (UN Information Service) – Pakistan signed the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, also known as the “Singapore Convention on Mediation” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 23 May 2025. There are 18 State Parties to the Convention and Pakistan is the fifty-eighth signatory to the Convention. Pakistan made two reservations to the Convention, declaring that it will not apply the Convention to settlement agreements to which it is a party, or to which any governmental agencies or any person acting on behalf of a governmental agency is a party, and that it shall apply the Convention only to the extent that the parties to the settlement agreement have agreed to the application of the Convention.
The Singapore Convention on Mediation facilitates international trade and promotes mediation as an alternative and effective method of resolving commercial disputes by providing a harmonized legal framework for the right to invoke international settlement agreements resulting from mediation as well as for their enforcement.
The Convention is open for signature, ratification, acceptance, approval or accession by States and regional economic integration organizations. Up-to-date information on the Convention and its status is available on the UNCITRAL website: https://uncitral.un.org/.
